High political complexity has coevolved with broad supernatural punishment (2, 5).
Note
The analysis compared independent and dependent models for the evolution of the traits. The results support a dependent (coevolved) relationship. This is backed up by the fact that political complexity was only present in cultures with broad supernatural punishment.
